Animal symbolism:

Salamander: able to rebuild a limb, it was thought that it was able to live in fire without being burnt; because of this, it was a symbol of eternity and of great importance to alchemists; it was the emblem of the French King François Ist (1494-1547).

Snake: one of the most complex animal symbols. In the bible, it is evil; for the Greeks, it is the attibute of Aesculapius and of Hermes god of trade and messenger of the gods.
